There are many Ayurvedic medicines that can treat a variety of ailments, but there are however some medicines that are most beneficial for certain conditions. These are invariably kept in view by the Ayurvedic physicians while prescribing medicines for patients. They are as follows:

1. For the treatment of different Kinds of fever musta (Cyperus rotundus linn.) and parpataka (Fumaria parviflora lam.) are the best.

2. Water in which a brunt clod of earth has been immersed is the best for the treatment of morbid thirst.

3. Laja (fried paddy) is the best for the treatment of vomiting.

4. Silajatu (mineral pitch or an exudate from stone) is the best for the treatment of urinary disorders.

5. Amalaki (Emblica officinalis Gaertn.) and nisa (Curcuma longa linn.) are exceedingly useful in the treatment of meha (obstinate urinary disorders including diabetes mellitus.)

6. Different preparations of iron (in bhasma form) are the best for the treatment of anemia and loss of blood.

7. Haritaki (Terminalia chebula Retz.) is the best for correcting diseases caused by both vata and kapha.

8. Pippali (Piper Longum Linn.) is the best for the diseases of spleen and liver.

9. Lac is the best drug for healing fracture of bones.

10. Sirisa (Albizzia lebbeck Benth.) is the best drug for the treatment of all types of poisoning.

11. Guggulu (Commiphora mukul Engl.) is the best drugs for the treatment of diseases caused by excess of fat and vata. It is also one of the important drugs for healing ulcers and wounds.

12. Vasa (Adhatoda vasica leaves) is the best drug for the treatment of rakta pitta (a disesase characterised by bleeding from various parts of the body), ksaya (tuberculosis and kustha (obstinate skin diseases including leprosy).

13. Kutaja (Holarrhena antidysenterica Wall .) is the best drug for the treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery

14. Bhallataka (Semecarpus anacardium Linn. f.) is the best drug for the treatment of piles, kustha (obstinate skin diseases including leprosy) and malignant for of tumour.

15. Gold (in bhasma form) is the best for the treatment of poisoning and heart disease.

16. Maksika (copper pyrite) is the best for the treatment of obesity.

17. Vidanga (Embelia ribes burm. F.) Is the best drug for the treatment of diseases caused by krmi (bacteria, virus, bacillii and intestinal worms).

18. Wine and milk as well a meat of goat are exceedingly useful in treatment of sosa (emaciation caused by tuberculosis).

19. Haritaki (Terminalia chebula Retz.),bibhitaki (Terminalia belerica Roxb.) and amalaki (Emblica officinalis Gaertn.) are exceedingly useful for the correction of refraction error and healing of wounds. 20. Guduci (Tinospora cordifolia Miers) is the best drug for the treatment of gout.

21. Buttermilk is the best for the treatment of sprue syndrome.

22. Old ghee (cow’s ghee) is also very good for the treatment of sprue syndrome.

23. Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri Pennell) is the best drug for promotion of memory.

24. Buffalo –milk is the best for inducing sleep.

25. Lasuna (Alium sativum Linn.) is the best for the treatment of nervous disorders.

26. Butter mixed with brown sugar is the best for the treatment of facial paralysis.

27. Urine and milk of camel are exceeding useful for the treatment of udara (obstinate abdominal disorders including ascites).

28. Nasya (inhalation therapy) is the best for the treatment of diseases of head and neck.

29. Ginger is the best for the treatment of indigestion.

30. Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris Linn.) is the best for the treatment of mutrakrachha. (dysuria).
